Ella Waters's Guidance Counselor

Ella is one our top seniors not only academically but in leadership and service too. She volunteers for several community service oriented school clubs and chartered a new club, Red Cross, in which she serves as president.

Her passion to serve goes beyond our campus. Please allow me to share the following story to illustrate Ella's leadership and character in action. Ella plans to follow her parents' path and become a medical doctor too. As such, she occasionally works in her mother’s pediatric office, helping to schedule vaccinations and other appointments. When schools initially began moving to distance learning, employees struggled to find child care and continue to work on site while having their child stay at home. Ella understood the issue and took charge to develop a distance learning center at the office. She found a space for students to complete school online in a supervised setting so parents could continue to work in the office, and she tutored students when possible. This kept the office open and medical services available during a very troubling time.

I have been counseling students for over twenty years now and can assure you students like Ella don't come though very often. I feel privileged to have helped her along the way and look forward to seeing her do great things in the near future.

I have had the pleasure to interact with Ella on both a personal level and as a scholar. She is an exemplary young leader and an individual that her colleagues can look up to. Ella is not afraid to explore new challenges and is determined to overcome anything she sets her mind to. I am extremely proud of her accomplishments and am certain she will continue to be an example leader in our community.

Ella is one on my students in AP Environmental Science class. She is a truly dedicated student concerned about the environment. She is a Strom Drain Detective testing the water quality of the Mokelumne River. Ella is a leader in class and on the cross-country/track teams. Her teammates take notice of her work ethic every practice. She is an outstanding student athlete that has a very bright future.

I have known Ella since her 7th grade year and have watched her grown into an amazing young woman. She is not only compassionate and caring but has shown excellent leadership skills through out high school. She is involved in many clubs at Lodi High and has successfully balanced a rigorous course load while excelling in multiple sports throughout her four years. Recently, she and two other students took the lead and organized the Spring Fling semi-formal in just three weeks for 500 Lodi High students. She is not afraid to take on a challenge and will continue to be a huge asset to whichever university and community she will soon be a part of.

I have known Ella Waters her entire life. She calls me “Granny”… I am her paternal grandmother. Since early childhood Ella has been a caring and kindhearted person. She sees a need and tries with all her heart and might to fill it. As a preschooler she befriended animals big and small. In fact she never met even a tiny rolly-poley that she didn’t like and brought home many wounded butterflies, burgs, bugs, lizards and tried to nurse them back to health.
The summer between her freshman and sophomore year, Ella volunteered through her church to work at a camp in the Missouri Ozarks that offers a complete camping experience to people with special needs and/or chronic illnesses. Due to transportation mishaps Ella’s group arrived late and missed volunteer orientation. Ella took it in stride and selected not one but two young women to oversee 24/7! They quickly bonded and stayed in touch after the camp was over. Recently Ella and her brother, Reed, founded a Red Cross club at Lodi High. So far the club has held a blood drive, raised money for CA wildfire victims, and is currently planning CPR certification for high school students. These two feel high schoolers should have the opportunity to know CPR in order to help out if a situation arises. Being prepared is another of Ella’s stellar attributes. She is an excellent candidate for your Brookside Optometric Scholarship.
It is a blessing to be Ella’s Granny❣️

It is such an honor to be able write in support of Ella’s nomination for the Brookside Optometric
Group Scholarship. As her maternal grandmother, I have watched Ella grow and mature into the amazing, committed young lady that she is today.
Throughout her high school career, Ella has repeatedly exemplified the traits of service, leadership and character. Ella is one of those special teens who relates well, not only to her peers, but to those younger and adults as well. This trait has served her well in many situations. Her volunteer work with students with special needs through the Night to Shine Program as well as serving as a counselor at Camp Barnabus in Missouri demonstrates a deep level of compassion and caring.
Ella is an extremely focused and organized person who sees a need and goes about finding a solution to that problem. Two examples of this are her involvement in creating and volunteering at a Distance Learning Center for elementary students during COVID. This provided a safe and educational environment that allowed parents to return to the workplace. Founding the Red Cross Club at the high school
is example number two.
Academics are extremely important to Ella. Her high standards have allowed her to excel at her coursework while at the same time participating in cross country, track and soccer.
Ella has worked hard and her future is bright.
I am so proud to be her mimi.

I have gotten to know Ella over the past two years as her AP Calculus teacher. Ella is a wonderful human being. She strives for 100% success with everything that she puts her mind to. In my class, she has shown me that she is willing to put in the work when things may become difficult. Ella is currently one of the top students in AP Calculus. Ella is also a true leader; during her junior year she founded the Red Cross Club and is currently the club's president. Ella loves to run and participates on the track and cross country teams. For both teams she is also the team caption. She is kind and shows compassion to everyone she interacts with. Ella will do amazing things in her future.

I have known Ella all her life; I was there to help bring her home from the hospital! As a very young child Ella showed a deep compassion and empathy for all types of animal life from her catch and release of geckos and frogs, to more recently adopting her rescue Labrador, Midnight. A few years ago, she donated her birthday money to a local Labrador rescue organization. In later years her love has matured into her choice of activities to support, including PAWS Club, Environmental Club and founding and serving as the first president of her high school Red Cross Club.
As a retired educator, I recognize that Ella exemplifies all the positive traits that our Public School system strives to instill in all students. Included are a motivation to succeed academically, being a positive role model and service both in school and the community.
Ella will continue to be successful as she begins her new challenges.

I have had the pleasure of coaching Ella the last 4 years as her cross country and track coach. Over these 4 years I have witnessed Ella show her leadership skills through her role as a team captain and as founder/president of the Red Cross club. She puts 100% into everything she does no matter the situation. When things were shut down for Covid and we didn’t have any meets she would still show up for practice and continue to put in the hard work. If you were to spend any amount of time out at cross country or track you could easily see how much of a leader she is as T he team would went where she would. Ella has a calm presence and is a genuinely kind person. She can get along with anyone that she comes across. You won’t find anyone else like her and there’s no doubt she’s going to do amazing things in the future.

I come from a family of 3 sons and I have 3 sons. Ella Grace Waters was my first experience w/a baby girl. She’s my first
Granddaughter! And what a grand experience it has been. I can sincerely say that she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. From the very beginning, Ella has been a helper. Her modus operandi is helping those around her and those in need. Beginning w/tiny crawly creatures needing assistance across the sidewalk to palliative care for the family dog during his last days to the welcoming of new rescue dog and the fundraising for local rescue animals. In high school Ella volunteered as a counselor at a camp in the Missouri Ozarks for special needs adults. She also helped pandemic weary classmates by organizing a dance, formed a Red Cross club on campus including a blood drive and CPR training. And she helps our family by attending all family gatherings, including special visits to her very elderly great grandmothers and even sporting events with me! I am confident her love of helping will continue into her bright future. With great pride, I recommend my granddaughter, Ella Waters, for the Brookside Optometric Scholarship.
