Lincoln High School
Kyle Sandstrom's Teacher
Kyle Sandstrom has consistently challenged himself academically and has dedicated his time to serving his school and community. Whether taking the lead in discussions, or being the first to help out a peer in his table group, by consistently doing his best Kyle has motivated others to do their best as well. Kyle is comfortable taking the lead in various situations. Kyle leads group tasks and class tasks. When given the opportunity to choose, Kyle chose to pair up with a student who struggled to take an interest in or complete their work. Kyle displayed patience and kindness towards this student. After working with Kyle a few times, this student became more engaged in the group and motivated in class. Kyle has a positive influence on his peers, and his exemplary character only begins in the classroom. Kyle has completed over 100 hours of community service hours (Commitment to Community). Kyle has worked on Link Crew from (grades 10-12) and is a Link Crew Leader Grades 11-12). For 3 summers as a Summer Youth Camp Counselor. As a 10th grader, Kyle assisted in a special-needs classroom for LUSD. Kyle is a referee for soccer, and has been nominated for the Youth Referee of the Year Award twice. He earned an award for Most Improved Percussion Player, which shows he is dedicated to working hard to achieve his personal best. Kyle has also been a member of the California Scholarship Foundation (grades 7-12), and is also part of the National Honor Society.
Kylie is a great example to the people around him. He has worked hard giving back to the community by doing community service. He has been a great example to his high school tennis team by being a co captain. Great job Kylie and good luck in college.
Kyle is well liked by his peer and an excellent role model. I have seen him as the Lincoln High Boys Tennis Team Captain, he is great at motivating and keeping the team organized. Kyle has been in the band programs for all four years of high school, he is a talented percussionist and dedicates his time to the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble 1, and the Fall and Spring Drum lines. He has a strong work ethic and a great team player.
It is with great pleasure that I recommend Kyle for the Brookside Optometric Scholarship! I first met Kyle when he was a Freshman at Lincoln. I was on the Lincoln Band Booster Board and Kyle always stood out because he was always the student who stepped up to assist whenever and wherever he was needed. He is a wonderful example of a conscientious, motivated and responsible student. He is also an amazingly talented musician, often helping lead his band mates to first place trophy’s. Kyle truly exhibits the qualities he needs to succeed in his chosen career.
I highly recommend Kyle for the Brookside Optometric Group College Scholarship. I was Kyle's YMCA basketball coach for many years and have known him through my son, who is in the same senior class as Kyle. In practice and the games, I was impressed with Kyle's self-initiated motivation to play hard and always to improve, with his unselfishness and commitment to teamwork, and with his positive attitude. His play and demeanor enriched my teams.
Kyle is also a well-rounded person. He has done really well academically at Lincoln and has taken many AP courses; he has played sports, being a member of the tennis team; he has played music, being a member of band; and he has done a good amount of community service.
As a university professor for over thirty years, I can attest to the academic promise of students who are well-rounded and who not only have intellectual but also emotional and social intelligence. Kyle would be an excellent representative of the Brookside Optometric Group.
Kyle is an extraordinary young man. I had the pleasure of knowing Kyle since he was a toddler. I have seen him grow from a curious, kind, and sporty little boy into an inquisitive, compassionate, and creative force. Kyle was always a good friend and an inclusive leader in everything from birthday parties, to group projects, to band trips and everything in between. I had the distinct pleasure of being his teacher in both the 7th and 8th grade. While Kyle was in my honors US history class, I saw him use his intelligence to problem solve and create ways to be more inclusive and model compassion amongst his peers. While others were using their gifts to elevate themselves, Kyle used his gifts to lead from the bottom and lift everyone else up. Kyle is hard working and humble. Though he is a great musician, you will never hear him toot his own horn! It is almost impossible to list the numerous ways in which Kyle has served his Community, in every sense of the word. I’m not entirely sure he is even aware of how much good he has done in terms of every day kindness and presence to the people around him. Kyle belongs to several different peer groups and fits in beautifully wherever his goes. He is a member of the band community, the sports community, and the scholar society, the Lincoln family, and his own youth group. I’m sure there are many others. Kyle is the sort that peers into the situation, quickly assesses what is needed, and then applies the remedy with subtlety, skill, and joy. I know I am not alone in this sentiment. I am a better person knowing Kyle Sandstrom!
It is my pleasure to recommend Kyle Sandstrom for the Brookside Optometric Scholarship! I have known Kyle for the last three years as part of the Lincoln High School Link Crew A-Team, and then as a Link Crew Leader. As an A-Team member, Kyle was hardworking, organized, and a team player. As a Link Leader, Kyle is a dedicated strong leader who is patient in his interactions with other students. He consistently demonstrates compassion for the freshmen he mentors. Kyle is an excellent candidate for any organization where responsibility and hard work are valued. I recommend him without reservation. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
I am happy to recommend Kyle for the Brookside Optometric Scholarship. As a neighbor and family friend, I have known Kyle since he was a young child, and he has always shown good character, intelligence, inquisitiveness, and an interest in others. Being a school administrator, it has been a pleasure to watch Kyle grow into the wonderful young man that he is, taking advantage of the many learning opportunities with which he has been presented. As can be seen by his record, Kyle has always shown curiosity, a commitment to excellence, and a strong sense of service to others. He is an amazing human that I am more than
happy to have in my life. He has my highest recommendation!
I was Kyle’s fourth grade teacher. As I read over Ms Billington’s nomination piece, I reflected on the positive traits in Kyle that were outlined so well; I remember Kyle in the same way. Kyle was an eager, capable, and conscientious student who always took responsibility for his learning and pushed himself to realize his potential. He was a leader, a role model, and a friend to everyone in class. I am thankful for the opportunity to enthusiastically endorse Kyle as a recipient of your scholarship.
I am happy to recommend Kyle for the Brookside Optometric Scholarship! Kyle is a kind and humble young man, with a character of integrity. He shows a strong sense of service and is always willing to help others. Kyle gives his best in all he does and doesn't forget to lend a hand to others who may need some help along the way. He cares about his community and is willing to do the work to invest in it. He is a great athlete, scholar, and percussionist. He does all of this without requiring accolades, but more for the enjoyment of the journey. I enthusiastically endorse Kyle for this scholarship.
I enthusiastically endorse Kyle Sandstrom for the Brookside Optometric Groups $1,000 College Scholarship. Kyle is a caring, modest, yet outstanding young man. As a professor and co-chair of the Chemistry Department at the University of the Pacific, I have had the opportunity to interact with many young people trying to find their way through college. Kyle is one of those people that is willing to do those little things that makes everyone around him better. I can see he has great potential and strives to do his best. One of my strongest impressions of Kyle is when he decided to become a referee for soccer. Organized sports are a huge component to a community and none of them would function without the hard work of the referees. I have great respect for Kyle since working as a referee is an unsung and difficult job trying to fairly judge and manage 2 soccer teams, their coaches, and their parents. Another fine example of this commitment is his work with the Lincoln High Drumline, where he helped them earn first place at the 2019 Winter Championships. He did all of this while also serving as co-captain of the tennis team and taking a rigorous academic schedule. Kyle is deserving and will be very productive with this honor.
I have known Kyle since he was in kindergarten with my son. They have become very good friends over the years. In addition to all of his extracurricular activities, I’ve come to know Kyle as an intelligent, respectful, loyal and authentic human being. He is a perfect example of what we hope our future leaders exemplify. Kyle would put a deserving scholarship to good use in his very bright future.
It is with great pride and pleasure that I write this on behalf of Kyle Sandstrom with whom I have been acquainted with for two years as his varsity tennis coach. Early on Mr. Sandstrom revealed himself as a fierce yet fair competitor and a natural leader which culminated in his appointment as team captain his junior season. Mr. Sandstrom leads by example. He's humble, tough-minded, smart and trustworthy. Mr. Sandstrom has also excelled in the classroom and has the awareness, skills, ability and attitude to continue to distinguish himself in his higher educational and extracurricular pursuits. I strongly encourage you to give Mr. Sandstrom's application a favorable review.
I have known Kyle his entire life, and I have been fortunate to watch him grow into the outstanding young man he is today. His fine character is an excellent example for others his age and makes him a natural leader. Additionally, Kyle is friendly, well spoken, and adventurous. I expect these characteristics to lead to nothing but success in his future.
I have known Kyle since he was in preschool with my daughter. It has been such a pleasure to watch him grown into such an amazing kind and dedicated young person. Kyle has been a natural leader and role model to his peers on the Lincoln High School campus. When Kyle commits to something, he applies himself fully. I am very impressed with all of the community service hours that he has completed and his commitment throughout his high school tenure to both the band program and the tennis team, which is remarkable. I have no doubt for his future academic success and I feel that he deserves the Brookside Optometric Scholarship.
