Langston Hughes Academy
Lyelle Thao's Coach
Lyelle is an amazing student, you can find no better candidate for your scholarship! She is a meticulous and driven student, and consistently performs at the top of my Calculus class through the extra hours of hard work she puts in. She is additionally a kind and caring peer, and can always be found organizing a student event, leading a fundraiser or just simply helping a friend with their math homework! She is a model student in every sense, and I am thankful to be able to have her in my class!
I had the pleasure of working with Lyelle for an event at LHA. She helped bring a color run vision to life. She was very organized and worked really hard to make this amazing event successful. She made plans blueprints, scheduled meetings, made sure everything was ordered and pulled together, and had an awesome team to help set up. She is such a kind young lady and it was a pleasure to work with her. She has incredible work ethic, she’s a fantastic athlete and she will be an extremely valuable asset to any team. Excited to see the things she does!
I can't recommend this student more! Lyelle Thao was my student all through the pandemic year and far from sloughing off or giving up, Lyelle was interested, engaged and hard-working. Aside from her exceptional academics, leadership on campus, and status as a role model for LHA student, Lyelle is just a really likable kid. She will grace any campus or scholarship program to which she is accepted. I heartily recommend Lyelle to your program.
I got to know Lyelle during her time at Langston Hughes Academy as her Academic and College Counselor. Although, I have only known Lyelle for less than a year, I feel as though she has welcomed me to the school and impressed me from the beginning. I am consistently impressed by her attitude, drive, and commitment as she approaches all things in life especially when it involves her academics, athletics, and extra curriculars. Lyelle is one to lead with humility and honesty, she is the kind of leader that pushes people to be the very best they can be. Lyelle has also taken advantage of our College Early Start Program and will graduate high school with her Associate of Arts degree from San Joaquin Delta College. I am so proud of her and can only ensure she will continue to do the same if not more in college. I wholeheartedly believe that this scholarship will only further Lyelle's success in achieving her dream career.
Lyelle Thao is an exceptional person, a truly remarkable young woman whom I have known since she was first my student when she was a freshman. She instantly stood out as not only someone who was really invested in learning and in preparing for her future but her authentic curiosity and quest for knowledge and excellence are not typical traits seen at that young age. But beyond that, she is extremely personable, very friendly and in every way a natural leader. Lyelle thrives on helping others and is currently serving on our senior leadership team. I especially remember the blog that she kept during 9th grade high school success class and how reflective she was and how she already had specific plans for her future. I know that I will be weepy at her graduation because of how proud I am of all she has accomplished and I will miss her incredibly but she is so ready to take on the next steps in life, her college life. This picture of her is everything, as she is always smiling she is always upbeat. During the pandemic as my advisory student, Lyelle and I had a weekly phone call to check in and I was always impressed with how well she was taking on the challenge of distance learning and making the best of it. I hope you will consider Lyelle Thao for this scholarship as it will be money well invested that will pay dividends as she continues her higher education beginning this fall.
Capable. Trustworthy. Resourceful. Determined. Modest. These are just a few words that come to mind when I think about Lyelle Thao. I have had the pleasure of working with Lyelle as her academic counselor and the honor of watching her excel in what she sets her mind to, from her academic achievements to her community involvement activities and participation. She holds herself to high expectations and gives 100% of herself to what she commits to. I truly believe Lyelle exhibits and models what your program is looking for and she will be a wonderful representation of your program.
Lyelle is one of the most amazing humans that I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. Genuine is the word that comes to mind immediately when I think about Lyelle. She shows up and gives 110% in everything that she does. Not only is she a great person, but she makes those around her better. I cannot think of a person more deserving of this scholarship than Lyelle.
